AMD Unveils New Overclockable Phenom II X4 42 Black Edition TWKRL CPU

PC components Jul 1,2009 0

AMD is releasing the new Phenom II X4 42 Black Edition TWKR, a special limited edition processor that support higher voltages and higher frequencies. But the company is not offering the TWKR processor for sale to the general public. Instead, it will be distributed to a select group of just 100 overclocking experts, in an effort to increase the popularity of the company's Phenom II line by offering operation in extreme frequencies.

The CPUs are based on the 45 nm Deneb core (8 MB cache, AM3 package) and ships with a standard clock speed of 2.0 GHz. However, with lots of liquid nitrogen, the CPU could reach the frequency of nearly 7GHz.

To apply for such a processor, you will have to go through AMD?s Twitter page.

New "Suzuka" CPU

AMD also released the latest AMD Opteron 1000 Series processor, codenamed "Suzuka". The new 45nm single-socket chips are available at speeds of 2.5GHz, 2.7GHz and 2.9GHz and they are based on the same core as the Quad-Core AMD Opteron processor codenamed "Shanghai."

John Fruehe, AMD's Director of Business Development for server and workstation products, claims to have saved approximately 10 watts of power by swapping a 2.3GHz Budapest processor for the Suzuka, which fits into the same AM2 socket. The company also has highlighted performance-per-watt improvements with its recent Istanbul CPUs.
