Hitachi Global Storage Technologies today announced the Touro and Touro Pro desktop and mobile external hard drives enabling easy and straightforward data backup. Hitachi is offering the 2.5-inch Touro Mobile Pro and 3.5-inch Touro Desk Pro which make use of 7200 RPM hard drives, feature a USB 3.0 interface, a sleek casing and allow for simple local backup and for cloud backup. Users can also share their content with friends by simply sending a link.

Consumers who buy a Touro Pro drive will get 3GB of free cloudy space and can upgrade to 250GB for $49 per year. Paying customers will receive the iPhone and iPad apps needed to view their stored files.

The Touro Mobile Pro line includes 500GB ($109.99) and 750GB ($129.99) drives, while the Touro Desk Pro is made up of 1TB ($129.99), 2TB ($179.99) and 3TB ($229.99) HDDs.

Hitachi will also release non-Pro Turo line, which lacks the online backup feature. This line includes the 2.5-inch Touro Mobile Drive and the 3.5-inch Touro Desk Drive models which also come with slower USB 2.0 interface, pack 5400 RPM hard drives and come with a textured body.

The 320GB, 500GB and 750GB Touro Mobile Drives cost $79.99, $99.99 and $119.99, respectively, while the 1TB, 2TB and 3TB Touro Desk Drives go for $99.99, $149.99 and $199.99, respectively.

The 2.5-inch Touro and Touro Pro are currently shipping and the 3.5-inch models will be released in June.
