Intel to Update Its Celeron Processor Line Despite Atom's Success

Intel to Update Its Celeron Processor Line Despite Atom's Success

PC components Jul 20,2011 0

Intel's Celeron series of processors will continue to power entry-level PCs as the company decided to updete them with new models coming in September. Sources in Taiwanese market unveiled Intel's plans to update its Celeron series of CPUs with new models aimed at both desktops and notebooks, while some existing models are expected to be phased out.

Digitimes.com reports that Intel's new Celeron CPU lineup includes the dual-core Celeron G540 (2.5GHz) and G530 (2.4GHz), and single-core Celeron G440 (1.6GHz) processors for desktop PCs.

For notebook platforms, Intel will launch dual-core Celeron B840 and B800, and single-core Celeron B710 as well as an ultra-low-voltage single-core Celeron 787 processors.

For netbooks, Intel is set to launch dual-core Atom N2800 and N2600 CPUs, while for nettops, Intel will offer dual-core Atom D2700 and D2500 models.

It seems that the Celeron CPUs do not overlap with Intel's Atom processors, at least for the entry-level segment of the PC market, at a time where rival AMD is coming up with new APUs.
