Apple iPad Mini, Nokia Tablet Planned

Apple iPad Mini, Nokia Tablet Planned

PC components Mar 15,2012 0

The rumor of Apple developing a smaller-screen "iPad Mini" is still alive. AT the same time, Nokia is also reportedly working on own tablet. On Wednesday, the Korea Times reported that an unnamed Samsung official told the newspaper that Apple was "planning to release a smaller iPad, probably with a 7.85-inch screen," later this year.

Apple has a policy of not commenting on rumors.

The last time we saw the iPad Mini rumor pop up (twice actually) was back in February when speculation swirled that Apple was testing a smaller tablet in both 7-inch and 8-inch screen sizes.

7-inch tablets have historically failed to catch any sort of consumer attention so far with one exception -- the aggressively -priced Amazon Kindle Fire.

In related news, Nokia design chief Marko Ahtisaari is reportedly spending time on creating a tablet for the cellphone maker, he said in an interview with Finnish magazine Kauppalehti Optio.

"We are working on it," he was quoted as saying.

Nokia is expected to launch an own tablet using Microsoft's Windows 8 software later this year.
