Facebook To Educate New Users Over Privacy

Facebook To Educate New Users Over Privacy

Enterprise & IT Nov 2,2012 0

Facebook is rolling out more detailed educational privacy information to new users as soon as they begin the process of signing up for Facebook. The social networking network is providing privacy information to new users are soon as they sign-up to Facebook. This includes education on the topics related to users' default settings, their ability to select an audience for information they share on Timeline, how to access their data, how they interact with applications, games, and websites. In addition, there is information on Facebook ads, tagging people and finding friends through search and contact importers.

Facebook has also added in-line privacy controls to the new user experience so that people can select an audience for their High School, College/University, and Employer as they sign up for Facebook. The company also updated its existing privacy resources on Facebook - like the Help Center and educational pages - to reflect recent product changes.

Facebook said it received guidance on this effort from the Irish Data Protection Commissioner?s Office, the regulatory oversight agency for Faebook's services outside of the United States and Canada.

Facebook's move comes at a time the company is under pressure from the U.S. Federal Trade Commission and E.U. officials to protect privacy.
