Pantech Introduces New Vega IRON Smartphone With Thinner Bezel
South Korean handset maker Pantech Corp. on Thursday
unveiled its latest smartphone "Vega Iron," with thinner
(2.4mm) bezel and an endless metal ring.
The Vega Iron has a 5-inch display and runs on the latest
Android Jelly Bean platform (v4.1.2). Pantech claims that
the display is 5 percent more vivid and bright than the
existing LCDs.
The Vega Iron (Model: IM- A870S/K/L) also packs a 13 megapixel camera with an eye recognition function along with a voice recognition function for dialing, the camera and Internet access. The eye recognition allows page scrolling, stopping videos and retaining brightness, similar to what is available on the Galaxy S4.
The smartphone is powered by an 1.7 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 quad-core processor, it supports long-term evolution (LTE) connectivity, has 2G RAM, 32 gigabyte of internal memory and a 2,150 mAH battery. Pantech said thanks to optimization, the phone?s battery life, one of the key things consumers want upgraded for smartphones, is effectively the same as a 3,000 mAH battery and recharges fully within 87 minutes.
The company said the decision to put a metal ?Endless Rim? was to create a unique design and increase the sturdiness of the handset. The bezel is only 2.4 millimeters thick.
Pantech did not provide details on a schedule for domestic and overseas release.
Meanwhile, Samsung Electronics plans to roll out the Galaxy S4 in the second quarter via 327 operators in 155 countries, including key mobile operators such as AT&T, Vodafone and Telefonica.
