BMG signs with Dataplay to support new format

BMG signs with Dataplay to support new format

General Interest Mar 12,2001 0

"...DataPlay announced today that it has secured a pact with BMG as a result of which the music major will prepare to make its new releases available on pre-recorded DataPlay digital media. About the size of a quarter, DataPlay digital media are single-sided 250MB and double-sided 500MB micro-optical discs that support both user-recorded and secure pre-recorded content.

DataPlay's technology allows music labels to include more content on the pre-recorded discs than just albums and singles. DataPlay media enables music to be combined with videos, interviews, photos and more on the same disc. Music labels can also include additional content, such as catalog albums or promotional offers, in a secure form on prerecorded DataPlay digital media. Consumers can activate this content over the Internet, without any time-consuming downloads.

After buying an album pre-recorded on a DataPlay disc, for example, customers can be offered the ability to access previous releases from the artist's catalogue and purchase additional items with just a few clicks. This creates an opportunity for retailers and labels to promote and sell back catalogues and related merchandise..." NULL
