Microsoft To Annnounce New Surface Tablets
Microsoft reboots its tablet efforts with a new Surface model, which will be officially announced on Monday in an event in New York.
The company is trying to correct missteps from its first try and gain a foothold in the tablet market dominated by Apple's iPad and others using the Google Android operating system.
The new device is expected to be more powerful and run Windows 8.1, while another Surface RT model is in the works.
Microsoft's first-generation Surface was launched in October and IDC estimates that the company sold 900,000 in the first quarter of the year -- a very small market share of just 1.8 percent.
Weak demand has also forced Microsoft to cut the price of the Surface tablets.
