Samsung To Release New Gear Solo Wristwatch Phone
Samsung is expected to unveil Gear Solo, a smartwatch that will not need to be linked to a smartphone in order to make a call. Samsung's existing wearable smart devices like the Galaxy Gear do not have their own communication functions and must be attached to a smartphone to make calls or exchange e-mails or text messages.
With Solo, Samsung is trying to effectively respond to the low-priced smartphones and feature phones that have been launching in China and India.
The Gear Solo will be equipped with its own universal subscriber identity module card and is expected to work on the 3G network, and not on the long-term evolution technology. But still, runners, for instance, will be able to leave their smartphone at home and still make or receive calls.
Samsung plans to unveil the Gear Solo and its new smartphone, the oversized Galaxy Note 4, on Sept. 3 at the IFA consumer electronics show in Berlin.
