Europe To Ask Google Unlink Its Commercial And Search Services
The Financial Times is reporting that the European parliament is set to ask Google to unbundle its search engine from other commercial services.
"Unbundling (of) search engines from other commercial services" should be considered as a solution to Google's dominance, the FT cited the draft motion as saying.
European regulators are concerned about Google's dominance of the Internet industry. Rival search engines argue that the company is squeezing them out in Internet search results.
Although the European Parliament cannot force Google break up, it could will add pressure on the European Commission to act.
Last month, Europe's antitrust chief said she would take some time to decide on the next step of a four-year-long investigation into the Internet search leader.
Should Google be found in breach of Europe's antitrust or competition rules, it could be fined up to 10 percent of its global revenue for the infringing years.
