Intel Buys Replay Technology To Boost Its Sports Game

Intel Buys Replay Technology To Boost Its Sports Game

Enterprise & IT Mar 9,2016 0

Intel said on Tuesday that it is buying Replay Technologies, a company that helps sports broadcasters show 360-degree views of the action. Financial terms were not disclosed.

Intel and Israeli Replay Technology worked together on a project for the recent NBA All-Star game and Intel CEO Brian Krzanich has been talking up the coming intersection between the worlds of sports and technology.

Replay's freeD video captures 360-degree views, giving fans access to the same real-world angles as the pros on the sidelines.

freeD replays not only allow viewers to see victory points and plays from every angle, it enables them to re-watch key moments and post a custom clip on their social networks.

What’s impressive about the technology is the speedy turnaround from 2D video footage to 360-degree replays. This has as much to with the engineers who used general purpose graphics processing unit (GPGPU) techniques to develop the system’s algorithms as it does with the hardware.
