Stable Version of Secure Tor Browser is Available on Android

Stable Version of Secure Tor Browser is Available on Android

Enterprise & IT May 22,2019 0

Privacy-focused Tor Browser 8.5 is now available from the Tor Browser download pageand the Android version is also available from Google Play.

The stable version (v8.5) of Tor for Android routes your web traffic through the Tor network — a web of encrypted computers spread worldwide. The traffic bounces between several nodes on the Tor network before arriving at its destination to maintain your anonymity and privacy. The browser can also bypass geographic restrictions to provide access to websites and content blocked in your region.

Designed to offer real private browsing without tracking, surveillance, or censorship, the latest version for Android features no proxy bypasses, first-party isolation is enabled to protect you from cross-site tracking, and most of the fingerprinting defenses are working. Although there are
still feature gaps between the desktop and Android Tor Browser, Tor Browser for Android provides essentially the same protections that can be found on desktop platforms.

In the latest Tor Browser 8.5, the Tor Project team made changes so now the chosen security level appears on the browser's toolbar. You can interact with the slider more easily now.

Tor Browser 8.5 is also compatible with Firefox's Photon UI and brings redesigned logos and about:tor page across all the supported platforms to provide the same look and feel and improve accessibility.

The browser still has some bugs though; WebGL related fingerprinting along with the fact that the upgrade to Tor Browser 8.5 broke saved logins and passwords.

Though an official Tor Browser cannot be launched to iOS due to restrictions by Apple, the only app recommended is the Onion Browser.

Tor Browser is built on Firefox browser. Mozilla is also currently working on finding a way to integrate the Tor protocol into Firefox. This feature will be called the Super Private Browsing Mode.
