Intel Teases With Xe-HP GPU Picture on Twitter

The Intel Graphics Twitter account posted an update on the development of the Xe graphics processor, causing many entusiastic comments and buzz.

The impressively large in size XE-HP(C) GPU in the posted pictures will probably find its way to professional servers at data-centers. Obviously, the GPU has multiple dies, much like what AMD is doing with Threadripper and EPYC.

The gigantic chip, which could be the upcoming 'Ponte Vecchio' server chip, will be made on Intel's 7nm node.

Raja Koduri, senior vice president, chief architect, general manager for Architecture, Graphics, and Software at Intel, wrote on Twitter that the specific processor is a "baap of all", meaning "father of all" when translated from Hindi.

Koduri deleted the original tweet and posted the following: "The first GPU with IEEE FP32 support I worked on was in 2005. 321M transistors and 32 FP32 Ops/clk. GPU compute density increases continue to be a shining point for Moore’s law. Tens of billions of transistors and tens of thousands of ops/clk."
