BenQ will demonstrate the upcoming DW1600A 16x DVD burner and the DW830A dual layer DVD recorder at CeBIT 2004. The DW830A will be available in the market in April, 2004. The second generation of this drive is expected in the third quarter of 2004 and will probably support both DVD formats (DVD+R/-R).

The DVD+R9 drive will support the Walking-OPC II technology, offering real-time monitoring of the CD/DVD burning process for guaranteed recording quality. The specifications of the drive also include an 8MB buffer, and 8x recording for (4.7GB), 4x for DVD+RW, 12x DVD-ROM reading and 2.4x DVD+R9 burning.

Further plans of the company include the 16x DVD+R burner, the DW1600A, also offering dual layer burning. Available in third quarter of 2004, the drive uses the appropriate technology to maintain 16x DVD+R recording, which is the physical top level for DVD recording, with a rotational speed fixed at 10800 rpm ~ 180 Hz ~ 200 km/h.

Additional hardware requirements would include correct bit clock timing, laser pulse timing, high resolution writing strategy, high performance servo requirements Robustness to media spread/drive spread and temperatures.

The specifications of the DW1600A inlude the impressive 16x4x16/2,4 (DVD+R9) and 40x24x40 CD-RW.
