Samsung Ascends to World's No. 2 Handset Maker
Samsung Electronics claimed a 13.8 percent market share Wednesday, citing a survey by industry research group Gartner Dataquest.
This seals its position as the world's second-largest handset manufacturer in the third quarter, pulling ahead of U.S-based Motorola with 13.4 percent.
Finnish telecommunications giant Nokia remained unbreakable at the top slot with 30.9 percent.
Samsung's market share jumped 1.7 percentage points from the previous quarter, while that of Motorola dipped 2.4 percentage points in the same period. LG Electronics' market share also grew to 6.7 percent from 6.0 percent in the second quarter, overtaking Sony Ericsson.
