Yamaha introduces 20X CD recorder with dual interface

Yamaha introduces 20X CD recorder with dual interface

General Interest Jul 31,2001 0

"...Yamaha announces the introduction of the industry's first 20X internal ReWritable CD recorder with a "Dual Interface" design, giving the consumer the choice of using either an E-IDE (ATAPI) or SCSI interface. The CRW2200SZ is capable of recording on CD-R discs at a top speed of 20X; rewriting CD-RW discs at a top speed of 10X; and reading CDs at a sustained maximum rate of 40X. The Yamaha CRW2200SZ's "Dual Interface" allows the consumer to choose between installing the drive with either an Ultra SCSI or E-IDE (ATAPI) interface. Yamaha provides the ultimate in convenience, allowing consumers who have a SCSI setup to switch to E-IDE -- or vice versa -- as they upgrade their computers or switch from one type of PC to the other, keeping all their options open.

Yamaha provides an exclusively designed SCSI converter that attaches to the default E-IDE interface and converts it to an Ultra SCSI (SCSI-3) interface, if desired. Also packaged with the drive are E-IDE and SCSI ribbon cables to facilitate installation and a simple instruction sheet, guiding people on how to install the converter. The installation can be done in about a minute. The estimated street price of the CRW2200SZ is $299.99 and it is currently shipping.

Other members of Yamaha's new LightSpeed2(TM) family include the internal CRW2200EZ using E-IDE (ATAPI) interface with a street price of $249.99 is now shipping; the external CRW2200SXZ using Ultra SCSI interface with a street price of $349.99 will ship early August; the external CRW2200FXZ using IEEE 1394 FireWire(TM) with a street price of $379.99 will ship mid-September; and the external CRW2200UXZ using USB 2.0 model with a street price of $379.99 will ship mid-October..."
