DVD reading tests
- Single Layer DVD-ROM ( Teac DV-W50D and Memorex Dual-X1)
Both drives support 12X maximum reading speed for the DVD-Rom format. In the graph above we can see that the reported speed is almost the same for both of them in all modes.
Teac is little faster than Memorex in all modes. The differences are not very big except at the 1/3 mode where the two values differ for 7ns.
- Dual Layer PTP DVD-ROM (Teac DV-W50D and Memorex Dual-X1)
Teac and Memorex support 8X CAV reading for the dual layer DVD-ROM. The specific DVD-ROM disc is PTP. In PTP the two layers are read sequentially with the drive starting reading from the inner part of the disc, which is the beginning of each layer, towards the outer range, for each layer. Both drives use the same reading method and after the end of the test, as we can conclude from the photo above, the results we took are exactly the same.
From the seek time test, which we can see at the graph above, Teac is faster than Memorex in the first two modes. At full mode both drives have the same seek time.
- DVD Ripping Tests
We measured the DVD Ripping speed for both drives using the "Matrix" DVD Video title and the DVD Decrypter software.
Such Teac as Memorex are fast on the DVD-Ripping process and they needed the same time to finish the task.
- DVD Recordable/Rewritable Tests
The chart below shows the Nero CDSpeed results with the following media
Teac DV-W50D
|
Memorex Dual-X1
|
||
DVD+R | DVD+R | ||
DVD+RW | DVD+RW | ||
DVD-R | DVD-R | ||
DVD-RW | DVD-RW |
According to the graph above we can see that both drives output exactly the same reading speed for the DVD-RW and DVD+R media.On the other hand the DVD-R and DVD+RW media were written at very similar speeds with Memorex being slightly faster.
