Teac DV-W50D and Memorex Dual-X1 - Page 9
Protected CD Tests
We used CloneCD and 3 original CDs - Serious Sam 2 (SafeDisc 2), V-Rally 2 Expert (SecuROM 2) and NBA Jam Extreme (PSX) - in order to test the reading time of the drives. The following pictures show the drive reading/writing capabilities as CloneCD reports:
Teac DV-W50D |
Memorex Dual X1 |
- PSX Pressed Media
For this test we used the PSX game 'NBA Jam Extreme' and we ripped the image to the HD with Alcohol 120%.Both drives needed the same time to finish the image making process.
- SafeDisc v.2
- SecuROM Results
As we can see from the graphs above both drives gave back almost the same time at the image making process. There is a small difference but not important at the third test, with the SecuRom protection, where Teac was a little bit faster than Memorex.
- Writing Tests
Both drives supports the DAO-RAW writing mode. For checking the drive's EFM correction status, we used 3 different game titles with different SafeDisc 2 versions and the latest software patches installed. We also used the drive as reader/writer at maximum reading/recording speed. The software we used after making the images was Alcohol 120% for the burning procedure, and we burned 3 discs/titles at the maximum speed with the Bypass EFM Error function enabled.
In the table below you can see whether the produced backups were working (game installed / played normally), or not.

The produced backups with Alcohol 120% partially worked to the drives we tested. Unfortunately both drives cannot create working backups of the last two versions of SafeDisc 2. The SafeDisc v2.50 didn't seem to be a problem for the drives , as long as the "Bypass EFM error" feature is enabled. In other case, the backup does not work.
