The Dark Mount mechanical keyboard is a statement from be quiet! that wants to dominate a new market from them, the peripheral mechanical keyboard. The parent company of be quiet! (Listan GmbH) bought Mountain.gg and called Mountain be quiet! so it was natural to be quiet! to release products based upon the success of the Mountaing.gg and further develop them. The build quality of the Dark Mount is superb and there are many features you won't find anywhere else. This product can be used either as a fully sized keyboard or with a TKL layout for saving desktop space.

The numpad can be either connected magnetically left or right, depending on your needs, and stay strongly connected, something that wasn't true with the Mount Everest Max. You also have 8 Display Keys with support of 140x140 pixel images that via the IO Center software can map any function/key you can imagine. There is also an extra media control center with an LCD screen for quickly controlling several functions of the keyboard as well. The extra module also can be placed left or right at the back of the keyboard since it includes, apart from the main USB TypeC host connection, two more Type C ports. You cannot attach similar Mountain Everest Max modules, the housing is different (we had to try :-).

The ARGB is pleasant and there are tons of adjustments depending on your taste. We liked the fact that be quiet! includes palm rest for both the main keyboard and the numpad as well that attaches magnetically. The typing angle also can be adjusted with the included magnetic feet from 3, 6 or 9 degrees, magnets everywhere with the be quiet! Dark Mount.

The software support is very good for the be quiet! Dark Mount, since the IO Center is stable and will help you maximize the experience. Everest has taken a lot of hits for its software development and stability and are happy to report that they be quiet! IO Center is a good and stable software. be quiet! moved a step forward, offering most of the functions of its software via WEB, making the Dark Mount very appealing to Linux/MAC users or simply for users who simply won't wish to install additional software on their systems. Most functions are present even firmware update functions and as time passes both software will become even better.

The be quiet! Dark Mount is being offered with two different switches (orange/black) and up to four (4) different layouts. The orange is more oriented to silent users (near silent) while for those who need some kind of tactile feedback, the black switches can be ordered. In fact, the Dark Mount mechanical keyboard can use any type of 5-pin MX-style switch, so the options here are limitless.

There are some things we wish to be further improved, the included media hub control scroll wheel is plastic, and for the amount of money that the be quiet! Dark Mount costs, we would like to be metal. Also, the LCD screen could be OLED, but this may further increase cost. Maybe those will come in the future as a separate upgrade...There is no cable routing for the USB cable, we would like that. Apart from those two issues, we really don't have any other complaints. We do like what the be quiet! Dark Mount offers stability, quietness, and high usability. The product has two (2) years of warranty and comes at a suggested retail price of $254.90 / €259.90 / £239.90.
