BlackBerry CEO Avoids Talking About BB10
It seems that Blackberry's own Blackberry 10 (BB10) mobile operating system is dead, is is not included in the few upcoming devices the Canadian company plans to release this year.
Speaking at CES, CEO John Chen promoted the Android-based Priv and the follow-up handset to the Priv - the BlackBerry Venice. Priv will soon be avauilable from more mobile providers in the U.S. (Verizon, T-Mobile, Sprint) and Venice will be a cheaper version of the Priv, with a fixed keyboard and a 5.4 inch screen. Chen also spoke of a possible follow-up to this pair of devices, but most obviously BlackBerry’s current and future line-up is focused on using Android as the operating system, and not the in-house option of BB10.
The tenth version of BlackBerry’s operating system made its debut in 2013's BlackBerry Z10. However, BlackBerry experienced low sales outside of its core community, poor developer support, and relied on Android emulation to provide users with the expected level of third-party app support.
