China has lifted the 15-year nationwide ban on video game consoles, meaning that Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo wil lsoon start selling the PS4, Xbox One and Wii U to the massive local market.
Previously, China had allowed companies to manufacture and sell game consoles within the Shanghai Free Trade Zone along with special restrictions, but the Wall Street Journal reports that the restrictions have now been lifted entirely, allowing companies to manufacture and sell consoles anywhere in the country.
The lach of video game consoles in China has resulted to a turn of Chinese gamers to PC and mobile games, so they are accustomed to entirely different pay structures and gameplay styles than what we normally see on console. So the big players in the video game console market will have to do a lot more than just sell the same games and the same boxes in China.
