Dell Announces Plans To Expand Its Americas Customer-Contact Operations
Dell today announced plans to expand its Americas customer-contact operations and increase employment at its Middle Tennessee facilities by up to 1,000 people over the next several quarters.
"Our continued Americas growth, combined with the quality of this area's workforce, made the decision to expand our operations here an easy one," said Kevin Rollins, Dell's chief executive officer. "Today's announcement reconfirms our commitment to keeping Nashville and Middle Tennessee as one of our primary operations sites in the Americas region."
Along with the employment increase in Tennessee, Dell also announced that Tennessee Titan rookie quarterback Vince Young will lend his support to Dell's Middle Tennessee TechKnow program, an after-school curriculum that provides underserved middle-school students access to technology and 21st-century skills. Additionally, Dell announced an expansion of support capabilities to small businesses and consumers with its new DellConnect remote-assistance tool that fixes common technology problems that rob them of computing time and resources.
Since Dell's launch of its Middle Tennessee operations in August 1999 with about 200 production, sales and call center employees, the company has expanded its work force to approximately 3,500. Today's announcement will increase employment at Dell's Tennessee facilities to as many as 4,500 by the completion of the workforce expansion.
Dell currently has three facilities in Middle Tennessee:
-- A 260,000 square-foot manufacturing facility in Lebanon producing award-winning Dimension and OptiPlex desktop computers.
-- A 360,000 square-foot office facility on the Nashville campus housing Dell's technical support call center and sales operations.
-- A 250,000 square-foot fulfillment center servicing customers in the eastern U.S.
The Middle Tennessee customer contact center interacts with a variety of customers and businesses throughout the United States and Canada. The employment increase is being driven by an expansion of sales professionals for additional lines of business, including public sector and corporate accounts, and an addition of Dell services technicians and managers who provide technical resolutions to personal computer, server and storage customers.
"Dell's presence has not only made a positive impact on the Tennessee economy, but Dell and its employees continue to give back to the community through volunteerism and community engagement activities," said Tennessee Gov. Phil Bredesen. "The announced expansion shows tremendous confidence in our workforce and reaffirms Dell's commitment to the state."
Since its arrival in 1999, Dell has invested more than $250 million in its Middle Tennessee operations and donated more than $3 million to local schools, libraries and not-for-profit organizations.
