E3: Nintendo Unveils "WiiSpeak" Microphone, New "Animal Crossing"

E3: Nintendo Unveils "WiiSpeak" Microphone, New "Animal Crossing"

Gaming Jul 15,2008 0

Nintendo announced a new accessory called "Wii Speak," a group microphone that works with its Wii game console and can be used for online games, this year. The announcement was made today at Nintendo's E3 press conference.

WiiSpeak will allow Wii gamers to talk to each other online during multiplaying. Nintendo described WiiSpeak as an optional peripheral, and owners will be able to speak to groups of friends online in real-time.

Among the game titles Nintendo announced for the Wii console, there is the "Shaun White Snowboarding", presented on stage by gold medalist Shaun White. Shaun White Snowboarding takes advantage of the balance board to mimic the moves of a snowboarder to enhance gameplay. The game is slated to come out by year end.

Other game titles announced include "Star Wars the Clone Wars" and "Rayman Raving Rabbids".

The upcoming "WiiMusic" allows everyone, even those who can't read music or play instruments to experience the joy of playing music. There's no need to follow music guides or have to play notes to play music. You just have to hold the Wii remote and move your body as you would when holding the remote to play. I was just holding the remote and moving my body with the timing of my preference. I don't have to worry about holding the wrong note, or if I make a mistake. You'll be able to play fifty different instruments, like the piano and violin.

On Monday, Nintendo also announced the Wii MotionPlus, a plug-in adapter for the Wiimote that, as Nintendo describes it, can more quickly and accurately reflect motions in a 3-D space.

"The Wii MotionPlus accessory attaches to the end of the Wii Remote and, combined with the accelerometer and the sensor bar, allows for more comprehensive tracking of a player's arm position and orientation, providing players with an unmatched level of precision and immersion," says Nintendo. "Every slight movement players make with their wrist or arm is rendered identically in real time on the screen, providing a true 1:1 response in their game play. The Wii MotionPlus accessory reconfirms Nintendo's commitment to making games intuitive and accessible for everyone."

The new controller is expected to be a great accessory for the upcoming "Call of Duty World War" game title that comes on Wii this year.

The company also introduced WiiSports Resort, another game that takes advantage of the new Wii MotionPlus controler in order to play the various games of the WiiSports Resort, like twisting a frisbee from side to side.

The company also said it also plans to release a much-hyped game called "Animal Crossing: City Folk" that lets players serve as characters of a virtual world that continues to function even when the game isn't being played, for the Wii this year before the start of the holiday shopping season.

Characters will be also able to visit an auction site in the game where you can trade items. You can also customise your in-game character by visiting the Gracie fashion store, or get a haircut.

This is the first time that the "Animal Crossing" franchise will be available for the Wii. It was already a hit on its past game platform, the GameCube, and its handheld Nintendo DS.
