Facebook co-founder Launches Jumo Social Network
After six months spent behind closed doors, Chris Hughes, co-founder of Facebook today officially launched Jumo web site (www.jumo.com,) described as "a social network for social activism."
According to Chris Hughes, Jumo is a social network to connect individuals and organizations working to change the world. The web site will make it easy for users to find, follow and support the issues and organizations important to them, whether that?s the soup kitchen down the street or a girls? school in rural Kenya.
"Despite huge advancements in connection technologies?500 million people on Facebook and millions more just a text away?it?s difficult to find meaningful opportunities to get involved. We believe we can do better," the Jumo team wrote at its blog.
The Jumo team claims that unlike other groups in the space, they are not interested in the donations, but they aim at building lasting relationships to the causes users care about and an informed community of people invested in the long-term successes of effective organizations. "We?re interested in providing you with meaningful opportunities to make a difference in the world around you," the team said.
Jumo beta is an early release of the Jumo site, which we?ll be building on in the months and years to come.
