The First "Made in India" iPhones XRs Go On Sale

The First "Made in India" iPhones XRs Go On Sale

Smartphones Oct 21,2019 0

Apple has started selling its iPhone XR phones assembled in India, as it looks to expand its share in the world’s second-largest smartphone market.

The phones are being assembled at Chinese contract manufacturer Foxconn’s India factory. Bulding iPhones in India means that Apple avoids high levies on the import of fully-built devices bit also meets local sourcing norms for opening its own retail stores in India.

The IPhone XR retails in India for 49,900 Indian rupees ($704) for the 64 GB version. That's cheaper than the prices in other countries, as Apple is trying to better compete rivals Samsung and OnePlus.

Other companies are also looking to use India as an export hub to soften the impact of an ongoing trade war between the United States and China.
