G-Technology Goes Rugged With Five New Portable External Storage Solutions

G-Technology Goes Rugged With Five New Portable External Storage Solutions

PC components Jan 6,2015 0

G-Technology announced at CES new rugged storage solutions including the new G-DRIVE ev ATC with Thunderbolt, the G-DRIVE ev ATC with USB 3.0, and the G-DRIVE ev RaW. G-Technology also announced new Thunderbolt and USB 3.0 all-terrain cases for turning the original G-DRIVE ev, G-DRIVE ev RaW or G-DRIVE ev SSD into an all-terrain storage solution.

G-Technology's new rugged series is designed to withstand daily wear and tear and even more serious conditions as well, with features like a watertight drive compartment, which floats when dropped in water, and drop-resistance. Like all G-Technology external drives, the new rugged storage solutions come with a three-year limited warranty.

The G-DRIVE ev RaW is a rugged and lightweight portable hard drive that's small enough to fit in a backpack, and strong enough to withstand a 1.5-meter drop, protecting up to 1TB of data. This drive is USB 3.0 bus-powered and comes with a USB 3.0 cable. It can be used as a standalone device, or used with the Evolutions Series' G-DOCK ev with Thunderbolt or the new ev all-terrain case. The drive is formatted for Mac and can be reformatted for Windows. The G-DRIVE ev RaW will be available in January. Manufacturer's suggested retail pricing is 1TB for $129.95 and 500GB for $99.95.

The G-DRIVE ev ATC with Thunderbolt and the G-DRIVE ev ATC with USB 3.0 external storage solutions feature an all-terrain case (ATC) with a tethered Thunderbolt or USB 3.0 cable that shields a removable G-DRIVE ev RaW USB hard drive. Featuring a watertight drive compartment, which floats when dropped in water, and the ability to withstand a two meter drop, data is protected from pressure, shock, water and dust. For added flexibility, the removable case is compatible with the Evolution Series, easily fitting the G-DRIVE ev or G-DRIVE ev SSD. This enclosure leverages a 7,200 RPM-based external hard drive using Thunderbolt or USB 3.0. Formatted for Mac, the external drive can be also reformatted for Windows. The G-DRIVE ev ATC with Thunderbolt will be available in January. Manufacturer's suggested retail pricing is $229.95 for 1TB. The G-DRIVE ev ATC with USB 3.0 will be available in February at an MSRP of $179.95 for 1TB.

For current G-DRIVE ev owners, a standalone all-terrain case can be purchased separately and turns the original G-DRIVE ev, the G-DRIVE ev RaW or the G-DRIVE ev SSD into a rugged storage solution, with a watertight compartment, which floats when dropped in water. The ev ATC with Thunderbolt (MSRP $129.95) and the ev ATC with USB 3.0 (MSRP $79.95) will be available in February.
