Google To Show Targetted Ads To Fiber TV Customers

Google To Show Targetted Ads To Fiber TV Customers

Enterprise & IT Mar 22,2015 0

Google has started testing a new kind of ad-tracking system for Google Fiber TV customers in Kansas. The company has announced a new local advertising service for Google Fiber that will make TV ads behave a lot more like internet ads. Using data from its set-top-boxes, Google will know how many times a particular local ad has been watched in homes with Google Fiber service. And like on the web, Google will only charge for the number of views an ad receives.

Google will also use some viewer data, like what show you're watching or what shows you've watched in the past to try and target the ads for maximum effect. T

"Fiber TV ads will be digitally delivered in real time and can be matched based on geography, the type of program being shown (eg, sports or news), or viewing history," Google said.

These ads will show during existing ad breaks, along with national ads, on live TV and DVR-recorded programs.

In the next few weeks, Google will be starting a small trial of this
type of capability with our Fiber TV subscribers in Kansas City, KS and Kansas City, MO.

Consumers will be able to opt out of seeing ads that are based on viewing history from the Fiber TV settings.
