Google's Larry Page Focuses on Long Term Bets

Google's Larry Page Focuses on Long Term Bets

Enterprise & IT Apr 5,2012 0

In an unusual move, Google co-founder Larry Page posted online his thoughts about the challenges ahead, the success of Google+ social network and he reiterated the Google's commitment to making long-term bets. Page posted his reflections on Google's website for investors and his personal Google+ page.

He talked about Google's effort to create a simple experience across Google, making its products work together seamlessly.

Page said that basic actions like sharing or recommendations is perectly offered through Google+, which creates a social layer across all Google's products so users connect with the people who matter to them. He added that over 100 million users are active on Google+.

Google CEO also welcomed ITA Software to the Google family. They have strong relationships with the airline industry, and using that data Google can now provide more relevant results for travel queries.

Talking about Android, Page said that over 850,000 devices are activated daily through a network of 55 manufacturers and more than 300 carriers.

He signaled Google's intentions to make hardware devices when its $12.5 billion acquisition of Motorola Mobility Holdings closes later this year, even as some observers have speculated that Google was only interested in the company for its extensive patent portfolio.

"We are excited about the opportunities to build great devices capitalizing on the tremendous success and growth of Android and Motorola's long history of technological innovation," Page wrote.

"Our goal is long-term growth in revenue and absolute profit—so we invest aggressively in future innovation while tightly managing our short-term costs," Page wrote.

Talking about the recent changes Google made to its privacy policies, Page said that they would create "an intuitive experience across Google", which is the company's key focus for 2012.
