Hitachi: DVD-RAM stores videos in MPEG2 format
Video recordings can now be stored in MPEG2 format (the standard used for both DVB and DVD) on a 3-inch DVD-RAM disc. With 1.46 gigabytes on each side, the disc provides storage for high-resolution video playback of up to 30 minutes. For lower resolution recordings, a 3-megabit per second recording mode can be used for up to one hour recording time on each side.
Another practical feature: The camcorder saves a thumbnail for each scene offering a clear overview of the content. For playback, the user simply selects a thumbnail and the film starts playing at that exact point. Recorded CD-ROMs can be played back on a camcorder or on a standard PC equipped with a DVD-ROM drive. This new innovation comes from Hitachi.
