HTC To Unveil Camera-related Product Next Month, Smartphone Plan Still Alive
HTC on Wednesday sent out invitations for a Double Exposure press event in New York City on October 8, where it could unveil a device with enhanced camera(s). In the camera or photo-centric event, HTC is asking the invitees to send in "selfies," according to the invitation. Rumors circulating on the web suggest that the new device could be an action camera.
HTC has integrated advanced camera technologies into its flagship phones over the past few years, including the "Duo" camera that enables effects like post-capture focusing.
The handset maker's recently unveiled mid-tier phone, the Desire 820, also comes equipped with an improved 8-megapixel front-facing camera.
HTC has long been also rumored to be working on a new 9-inch tablet with Google, however it appears unlikely that we will see such a device at this event. According to a recent filing by Nvidia with the U.S. International Trade Commission (ITC), the HTC Nexus 9, expected in the third quarter of 2014, will be powerd by a Tegra K1 SoC.
We also hear that the Taiwanese smartphone maker is also working on a smartwatch and plans to release it in early 2015. The device will be most probably be basded on Android Wear, Google's platform for wearable devices. But the company is aexpected to use an altered version of Android Wear that would include different elements and features -- similar to what it did with Android early on.
