Infodisc sets up blank DVD disc factory
Infodisc Technology on September 16 held a ground-breaking ceremony for a blank DVD disc
factory in the Hwaya Technology Park in Linkou, Taoyuan County (Taiwan).
Occupying a 3.3-hectare site, the factory will be developed in three phases, with investment
totaling NT$30 billion. Building construction will be completed by the end of next May, with
space for 70 production lines. Equipment installation and trial production will begin next
June, and blank DVD disc capacity could reach 30 million units per month before the end of
2004.
The company is also expanding capacity at its existing Chungho, Taipei County factory. By year-end, the facility's monthly production capacity will reach 3.5 million DVD-R/+R discs and two million DVD-RW/+RW discs.
Besides blank discs, Infodisc is one of the world's top four makers of pre-recorded discs, with a global market share of 15%.
