Intel's Quad-Core CPUs Available at $224
Intel proceeded to the expected price cut for its entry-level
quad-core processors by 47%, offering its Q6600 quad-core CPU for
$266.
The new prices took effect on July 22 and of course are valid for
1000 units purchases.
The Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 (2.4 GHz, 8MB L2, 1066MHz PSB) and Xeon 3210 (2.13 GHz, 8MB L2, 1066MHz PSB) CPUs are sold by Intel at $266, whereas Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 (3.00GHz, 8MB, 1333MHz PSB) and E6600 (2.40GHz, 8MB cache, 1066MHz PSB) dual-core processors are sold for $266 and $244. Intel Xeon 3220 (2.4GHz) chip is available at $224, while Intel Core 2 Duo E6400/6420 at 2.13GHz costs $183.
Intel also introduced 2 new quad-core processors. The Q6700 (2.66 GHz) features a 1066 FSB and it is available for $530, whereas the Core 2 Extreme QX6850 running at 3.00 GHz (1333 MHz FSB) sells for $999.
