Led by its Blu-ray high-definition player and new super-multi DVD recorders LG Electronics unveiled its latest lineup of digital audio/video products at the 2006 at CES 2006. LG expanded its line-up of next-generation super-multi DVD recorders, which record to any DVD blank media format available. With support for DVD+R/RW, DVD-R/RW, DVD-RAM and even DVD+R Dual Layer blank media discs, home recording has never been easier.

LG’s Blu-ray Disc (BD) Player (BD199) plays Blu-ray discs and also offers easy AV navigation and interactive functions. The device is planned for second-quarter 2006.

12x DVD-RAM

A preferred format for professionals and tech-savvy users, DVD-RAM is known for its reliability and ease of use, but read and write speeds have lagged behind many of the other formats – until now.

A major addition to LG’s Super-Multi line of drives is the GSA-H10N, one of the world’s first optical storage drives that can write DVD-RAM at a 12x speed. In addition to the 12x DVD-RAM write speed, this unit features write speeds of 16x for both DVD+R and DVD-R, write speeds of DVD+RW to 8x, DVD-RW to 6x, DVD+R DL at 10x and DVD-R DL at 8x.

The new External GSA-2166D Super-Multi also enables consumers to burn DVD media at 16x speeds. In addition to write speeds of 16x for both DVD+R and DVD-R, the unit also features write speeds for DVD+RW to 8x, DVD-RW to 6x and DVD+DL to 4x. For consumers who appreciate convenience and the latest in technology, the Super-Multi GSA-2166D is equipped with LightScribe, a technology allowing consumers to produce laser-etched labels directly onto select DVD or CD media. All of the great features in the GSA-2166D can also be found in an internal version – the GSA-4166B.

Complementing LG’s feature-rich lineup of optical drives are the GSA-2164D (external) and the GSA-4167B (internal). Both units are capable of 16x write speeds in DVD+R and DVD- R and 8.5GB double-layer recording. The GSA-2164D features a USB 2.0 user interface. These drives also feature write speeds of 8x for DVD+RW, 6x for DVD-RW and 5x for DVD-RAM.

Rounding out LG’s 2006 optical storage offering is the GSA-4082N Super-Multi. This ultra-thin drive, measuring only five inches wide, and ½-inch high, has 8x DVD+R and DVD-R write speeds in addition to 8.5GB double layer recording. As with all Super-Multi Drives, the GSA-4082N is compatible with all CD and DVD media.
