Panasonic DVD-RAM Drive Supports New Level of Backup Reliability..
"..Dantz confirmed today that Panasonic 5.2GB LF-D101 DVD-RAM drive supports the recently released version of its Retrospect for Windows line of backup software products.
Retrospect is unique in that you don't have to restore a full backup and then rebuild the system with each incremental backup. It can completely restore the hard drive to any previous state with a single pass over the DVD-RAM media.
Designed for fast, easy installation, Retrospect immediately recognizes the DVD-RAM drive and automatically loads the appropriate driver. The program also includes EasyScript, a set-up wizard that can be used to build a complete backup strategy employing multiple, rotating backup sets. If a virus or some other disaster strikes, any backup set can be used to completely restore the system as it was at the time of the backup.
Other features include full data encryption and password protection to prevent unauthorized access to sensitive material. Retrospect also includes a robust verification system. After each backup, Retrospect rereads the original files and compares them with the stored ones to verify that the backup was successful.
With Retrospect's compression capabilities, the 2.6GB per side discs can store nearly 10GB. DVD-RAM media also offers a number of other advantages such one of the industry's lowest storage costs (about $.008 cents a MB), more than 100,000 write/rewrite cycles, and a growth path to higher capacities.
Pricing, Availability Available now, Retrospect 5.0 is starting at $249. A full-featured 30-day demo is also available for download from the Dantz website, www.dantz.com. The Panasonic LF-D101 DVD-RAM drive is available as an internal drive with a SCSI-2 interface. The removable double-sided 5.2GB disc has an MSRP of $39.95. The 2.6GB single-sided media has an MSRP of $24.95 and is sold with a removable cartridge for playback on the latest Panasonic 5X and 6X DVD-ROM drives.." NULL
