Philips announces 170T LCD/TV combo

Philips announces 170T LCD/TV combo

Consumer Electronics Feb 10,2005 0

The local subsidiary of Dutch electronics stalwart, Philips, has announced the availability of an all-in-one full-featured LCD monitor and TV combo, the 170T monitor. Tyrone Young, marketing manager: monitors at Philips, says the 17-inch wide WXGA LCD monitor offers television capabilities and a brilliant display performance.

"The monitor incorporates HDTV setup and progress DVD input, as well as multiple video inputs for the display of PC, TV, DVD and VCD signals. The screen mode is adjustable for a better movie or DVD viewing ratio and the monitor's Auto adjustment facility optimises the picture quality."

He adds that consumers want the luxury of widescreen display for multimedia applications. "Consumers want to watch their favourite movies and DVDs - nearly all of which are optimised for widescreen theatre viewing with a 16:9 aspect ratio - in their 'native' widescreen mode, not shrunken down into square 4:3 aspect ratio TV format with the edges cut off. They will be able to do this with the T line of LCD/TV monitors."

The 107T4 offers YPbPr, also known as component video, which delivers the best connection for displaying DVDs and is incorporated within the monitor. It provides the same picture quality as RGB component video output, but allows adjustment of picture settings on the monitor TV to users' individual specifications.

The LCD/TV monitor also includes Progressive Scan, which doubles the vertical resolution of the image resulting in a noticeably sharper image.

"The monitor also caters for the needs of users who want to use a single display device in a multi-tasking working environment to view material from a variety of video equipment," says Young. "The built-in video connectors and a pair of high quality built-in speakers in selected models allows users to accommodate all major AV device signals."
