Pioneer Japan releases new BDR-WX01DM external BD/DVD/CD writer for JIS X6257 standard and 100-year lifespan BD-R disc
Pioneer Japan announced the release of a new BD/DVD/CD writer with the codename "BDR-WX01DM" that supports the the JIS X6257 format and the BD-R disc "IPS-BD11J03P" for archiving purposes.
In recent years, the digitization of documents, documents, images, videos, etc. has progressed, and the amount of digital data that needs to be managed and stored is rapidly increasing. On the other hand, data management and storage systems have not been established not only for general households, but also for sole proprietors, general companies, government offices, etc., which is a problem. In addition, in a survey of tax accountants regarding revisions to the Electronic Book Storage Law conducted by our company, regarding the obligation to store electronic data in electronic transactions from 2024, "many companies are unable to comply" and "information leaks, data falsification/damage etc.”
In order to solve these problems, Pioneer has introduced the long-term storage recording technology cultivated in commercial BD writers used for data storage in government offices, libraries, museums, archives, etc. with a new CD/DVD/BD writer with the codename "BDR-WX01DM" and the archive compatible BD-R disc called "IPS-BD11J03P".
Both the writer and disc conform to the JIS X6257 standard, and by using the alternative processing function "DM for Archive", it is possible to store recorded digital data for over 100 years. This ensures that documents require long-term storage will be saved and without problems. You can view more information and this "new" standard over here
Main features of "BDR-WX01DM" and "IPS-BD11J03P"
(1) Conforms to JIS X6257 standard
It conforms to the JIS X6257 standard, which defines the method of determining the quality of optical discs for long-term data storage and the operation method of long-term storage systems.

(2) Obtained JIIMA archive optical disc product certification
The Japan Document Information Management Association (JIIMA), a public interest incorporated association, has awarded the "JIIMA Archive Optical Disc Product Certification," which certifies the high quality of optical disc products for archiving, with an estimated lifetime of over 100 years in a life test compliant with ISO/IEC 16963. Acquired in combination with a certain "DM for Archive" compatible disc. The quality when recorded with this combination corresponds to "good condition" (possible for long-term storage of 100 years or more) stipulated by the JIS X6257 standard.

(3) Compatible with "DM (Defect Management) for Archive"
Compatible with "DM for Archive", which improves the performance of the alternative processing function (DM) that is standard on Blu-ray discs. Recording and recording quality confirmation are performed in a series of operations, and recording to an alternate area is performed when it is determined that quality standards are not met, ensuring recording quality that complies with the JIS X6257 standard. By using "BDR-WX01DM" and the dedicated writing app "DM Archiver" to record on "DM for Archive" compatible discs such as "IPS-BD11J03P", you can create high quality discs that can be stored for a long time.
■Archive BD/DVD/CD writer "BDR-WX01DM"
The optical pickup, which is a core component of the writer, uses the same high-quality optical pickup that is also used in our commercial writers, achieving stable recording and playback. In addition, the mechanical system, such as the dust shield structure that achieves high dust resistance and the adoption of a highly reliable motor, has greatly improved durability. One "DM for Archive" compatible disc is included.
■Archive compatible BD-R disc "IPS-BD11J03P"
All discs are inspected for defects and servos, and quality control is thoroughly performed using inspection standards that are stricter than those of ordinary Blu-ray discs. All lots are subjected to accelerated testing based on the life estimation test results, and only discs that pass the test are shipped to reduce the probability of data playback defects. (Set of 3 BD-R discs)
■ "DM Archiver" writing app for recording "DM for Archive"
In order to burn data with this new JIS X6257 format you need also new software. Pioneer has introduced DM Archiver software for Windows 10 & 11 operating systems. Pioneer mentiones that discs created with "DM Archiver" can be read by other Pioneer writers.
The software DM Archiver can also be used to confirm if the inserted disc complies with the JIS X6257 standard and whether the recording quality conforms to the JIS X6257 standard. When recording at "DM for Archive", you can set a password for each disk and encrypt the file (encryption is determined only when recording for the first time configurable). In addition, since it uses a unique encryption method, it can be decrypted only with this application (can be decrypted not only by the writer that recorded it, but also by other Pioneer writers).
The DM Archiver software seem to be for now only in Japanese Language and can be downloaded from here. Both the drive and BD-R disc can be bought from Japanese Pioneer's IT Store. The BDR-WX01DM drive comes with USB3.2 Gen 1/2.0 and costs around $450, as for the media they can be bought at a pack of three "IPS-BD11J03P" around $16.
