PS4 Has Blu-ray And DVD Playback Issues
Sony's PS4 seems to have some issues when it paybacks certain Blu-ray and DVD content, an extensive video performance test revealed.
The PS4's Blu-ray playback capabilities have been put under the test by well UK publication HDTVtest. According to the test, the PS4's Blu-ray player had no issues with the playback of most film based Blu-ray content. however, its internal deinterlacer seems to be responsible for poorer quality output on many titles.
Instead of outputting 1080i content via 1080i output, the PS4 chooses instead to deinterlace the content, poorly, resulting in a lower resolution picture. Content affected include special features on discs, and other video based content. The same problem occurs for Blu-ray movies encoded in 50i, the report added.
For DVD playback, everything except for progressively encoded NTSC content was hit by the same deinterlacing problem, again producing lower quality output than the PS3.
The Xbox One also suffering from framerate issues, where PAL 50Hz content is outputted at 60Hz.
