Realtek Enters The SSD Controller Market

Realtek Enters The SSD Controller Market

PC components Jun 4,2016 0

Network controller and audio codec specialist Realtek is entering the SSD controller market with the RTS5761 chip, which was showcased at COMPUTEX TAIPEI 2016. The company has been using the PCI Express technology in its network controller and card reader products, and brings that experience to the development of the RTS5761 NVMe v1.2 compatible SSD controller.

The RTS5761 is a NVMe SSD Controller that can be easily implemented in both PCI Express 3.0 x4 and SATA 6Gbps SSDs. It supports 1x / 1y / 1z nm generation of MLC / TLC and 3D NAND and up to 8 parallel NAND flash channels.

According to Realtek, a 256GB M.2 SSD based on the RTS5761 supports sequential read/write speeds of 1,203MB/sec, and 387.5MB/sec, respectively.

Reltek also plans to release the lower-end RTS5760 model - a PCI Express 2.0 x4 controoler with no support for SATA.

Both new controllers will support SSDs with capacities of up to 2TB and will hit the market in the second half of 2016.
