Samsung Electronics today announced the launch of the Galaxy Fold, available in Korea on September 6, followed by select countries including France, Germany, Singapore, U.K., U.S., and more, in Cosmos Black and Space Silver.

The luxury Android device was originally scheduled to go on sale in April, but it was delayed after multiple early tests found the screen to have severe reliability issues. Samsung said in July that the phone would relaunch in September, but it had not previously provided an exact date.

When closed, you can access your essentials on the cover display with one hand, and when opened, you can explore new ways to multitask, watch videos, play games, and more, on its 7.3-inch Infinity Flex Display.

During the past several months, Samsung says it has improved the Galaxy Fold’s design and construction, but also "took the time to rethink the entire consumer journey."

Samsung worked alongside partners to create a new UX that will take full advantage of the foldable design with its cover and main displays.

When closed, you can shoot a quick video, and then simply open the device to watch it on a larger screen—with App Continuity, the video transitions from the cover display to the main display. With Multi-Active Window, you can run multiple apps at once in real-time and effectively multitask: Edit footage, browse through the photo gallery for still shots, and read emails from friends and co-workers, all at the same time.

With a 5G-ready option, Galaxy Fold users in select markets can take full advantage of their carriers’ fastest speeds. By allowing us to do more with the 7.3-inch Infinity Flex Display, the Galaxy Fold could change the way we consume content and multitask.

Samsung has also designed a new premier service to help people discover the capabilities of this device. The company is introducing the new Galaxy Fold Premier Service to give you direct access to Samsung experts who can provide you tailored guidance and support over the phone any time, any day. This includes an optional one-on-one onboarding session to walk you through every feature packed into the Galaxy Fold and demonstrate how best to navigate this device.

In South Korea, the Galaxy Fold will be offered in only one configuration -- with 512GB of storage, 12GB of RAM and fifth-generation cellular connectivity -- by SK Telecom, KT Corp. and LG Uplus Corp. South Korea’s carriers said the sticker price for the Fold will be 2.39 million won ($1,980 US price) with a bundled free Montblanc luxury case. 5G will be an option in some other markets.

Samsung also confirmed that the Galaxy Fold will be available in Cosmos Black and Space Silver starting September 18, 2019, in countries including France, Germany, Singapore and the U.K., with the U.S. launch to follow. A 5G-ready option will also be available in select markets/

Last month, Chinese rival Huawei Technologies delayed the planned September launch of its own first foldable phone, its second postponement this year, as it battles a U.S. trade blacklist that threatens the tech giant’s access to crucial U.S. technologies such as Google's Android operating system.
