N Series: Its premium netbook, the NC10, in white or metallic-blue colored cases, starts at $499 with a 10.2-inch display (1024x600) and 160 GB hard drive. It is based on Intel's 1.6GHz Atom processor. It's weight is 2.8 lbs and it will be available with Windows XP Home SP3 installed.

P Series: They come with higher-performing processors like the Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 and include models with 14.1-inch and 15.4 inch displays (1280x800) and either could be used for multimedia or higher-end applications. They come equipped with a 320GB HDD, 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.0 +EDR and Microsoft Vista Business OS. The 14.1-inch system is priced at $1,199 and the 15.4-inch at $1,499.

Q Series: Samsung's "All -purpose" series includes two models that are both built with glossy, red-and-black cases, either 250 GB or 320 GB of storage, and priced at $1,199 and $1,349, respectively.

R Series: In includes the R610-64G model, which is built with a 16-inch screen, an Intel Core 2 Duo T5800 and an NVIDIA GeForce 9200M GS graphics chip. It has a 16" (1366x768 16:9) LCD display, a 250 GB HDD, 3GB/4GB of RAM and its weight is 6.1lbs. It comes with Microsoft Vista Home installed. This notebook is priced at $1,049. Samsung says this series could be considered a desktop replacement.

X series: Like Apple's Air, Samsung's X-Series premium lightweight notebooks come with options for either a hard drive or solid state memory. But Samsung's X360 is priced at $2,499 and carries 128 gigabytes of flash memory, twice the 64 GB that comes with the Apple Air selling for $2,598.

The X360 weighs 2.8 pounds and has an ultra-thin, tapered wedge design with a magnesium allow chassis, an aluminum top and a "pebble"-style keyboard.

Samsung's hard-drive version, the X460, starts at $1,899 for a 160-gigabyte hard drive, twice the capacity of Apple's existing MacBook Air model that is priced at $1,799 for an 80-gigabyte drive. The X460 weighs just under 4.2 pounds.

Samsung has a cost advantage over the other compatitive players in the netbook/notebook market. Many of the components inside Samsung devices are made by its semiconductor and other finished product businesses. This includes Samsung's SuperBrite light-emitting diode, backlit liquid crystal displays.

Samsung's announcement coincides with Apple's announcement later on Tuesday of upgraded notebook models.
