Samsung Powers Clearwire's 4G Mobile WiMAX Network in New York

Samsung Powers Clearwire's 4G Mobile WiMAX Network in New York

Smartphones Nov 1,2010 0

Samsung's latest 4G base stations power the commercial 4G mobile broadband network launched today in New York City by Clearwire Communications, LLC. With Clearwire?s 4G mobile broadband network, both consumers and businesses can enjoy super fast and richer mobile internet service at home, in the office and even on the move. The Clearwire 4G network serves a large ecosystem of 4G devices, including the first two 4G handsets in the U.S. and 4G embedded netbooks and notebooks.

Samsung provided its latest 4G base stations, which adopted a common platform capable of supporting Mobile WiMAX (802.16e), WiMAX 2 (802.16m), as well as both FDD-LTE and TD-LTE. Considering New York City?s uniqueurban architecture, Samsung also supplied macro base stations and pico base stations to provide quality of service and mobile broadband coverage.

Clearwire currently provides 4G service in 62 markets across the United States where approximately 82 million people live and the company plans to continue to expand its 4G coverage. The CLEAR customer experience is similar to that provided by Wi-Fi, but without the short-range limitations of a traditional Internet hotspot. Today, CLEAR delivers average mobile download speeds of 3 to 6 mbps and peaks of more than 10 mbps.

Samsung is providing its equipment to 57 Mobile WiMAX operators in 36 countries. Samsung also plays an important role in the standardization and technical specification development for IMT-Advanced technologies. At the 4G World, Samsung demonstrated WiMAX 2 based on IEEE 802.16m, recording 330Mbps in throughput.
