Samsung to Use MediaTek Multi-core Processors: report

Samsung to Use MediaTek Multi-core Processors: report

Smartphones Oct 5,2013 0

In an interesting move, Samsung is reportedly looking to source quad- and 8-core mobile processors from MediaTek that will be used in its devices launching in 2014. MediaTek is expected to enter the supply chain of Samsung in the second half of 2014, the Chinese-language Commercial Times cited CLSA Asia-Pacific Markets as saying earlier this week. Samsung is reportedly looking to utilize MediaTek quad-core MT6589 (Cortex-A7 cores) and octa-core MT6592 processors some of its devices.

MediaTek's mobile chips have been adopted by mainly China and India -based branded smartphone vendors, such as the Xiaomi, and a majority of white-box manufacturers.

Samsung has been also trying to break into these markets by offering budget devices such as the Galaxy Grand and Galaxy S Duos.
