Seagate Tackles Hyperscale Workloads with Exos 2X18 Hard Drive
Seagate® Technology Holdings plc (NASDAQ: STX), a world leader in mass-data storage infrastructure solutions, today announced the Exos® 2X18 hard disk drive (HDD), the latest addition to the Exos X series of drives. The new hyperscale drive delivers up to two times the performance for random reads/write (IOPS) and sequential data rates than traditional enterprise single actuator drives, enabling data centers to lower costs and effectively manage workloads.
Offering both 12Gb/s SAS and 6Gb/s SATA interfaces to meet data center application requirements, Exos 2X18 provides the perfect fit for running demanding applications. Additionally, the 3.5-inch Exos 2X18 HDD features MACH.2 dual actuators for concurrent data transfers. Available in both 18TB and 16TB capacities, the SAS Exos 2X18 has two independently addressable 9TB logical units (LUNs) or two 8TB LUNs to effectively use its full capacity. The SATA Exos 2X18 presents itself as one logical device with half of the drive capacity linked to one actuator and the other half linked to the other actuator, allowing for dual actuator benefits for those customers who deploy SATA drives.
Designed with a helium seal to deliver lower power and weight, and packaged with PowerBalance™ to optimize watts per terabyte, Exos 2X18 enhances total cost of ownership (TCO) for users. Additionally, the drive easily integrates into legacy systems with a 512e/4K format. To help ensure data integrity, Exos 2X18 includes extended reliability with 2.5M Hours Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) and a 5-year limited warranty.
Available now, Exos 2X18 brings enterprise-class reliability and performance to hyperscale applications and cloud data centers.
