Sharp to Introduce New AQUOS Blu-ray Disc Recorders

Consumer Electronics Sep 26,2007 0

Sharp will introduce into the Japanese market two new AQUOS Blu-ray Disc Recorders: the BD-HDW20 featuring a hard drive with a 1-TB (terabyte) capacity and the BD-HDW15 with a 500-GB hard drive. Sharp also plans to offer seven other new Blu-ray recorder models by the end of the year in Japan in a bid to replace video cassette recorders and conventional DVD machines.

New Aquos BD Recorders With HDD

Both the BD-HDW20 (1TB) and the BD-HDW15 with a (500GB) models are capable of recording and playing back digital HDTV data. In designing these AQUOS Blu-ray Disc Recorders, Sharp placed emphasis on faithfully reproducing high-resolution video images from digital broadcasts and Blu-ray discs on the AQUOS LCD TV. They are equipped with hard drives from 500 GB to 1 TB in capacity, and also support dubbing (moving) video from the hard drive to BD-RE or BD-R discs. HDTV programs recorded on the hard disk can be dubbed (moved) to Blu-ray discs.

Plus, these models are equipped with AQUOS Fami-Link that enhances the compatibility between AQUOS LCD TVs and AQUOS Audio Systems. An accessory Fami-Link Remote is provided to enable both the AQUOS LCD TV and these units to be operated using a single remote control. AQUOS Fami-Link offers even greater compatibility with AQUOS LCD TVs beyond simple operation, including Photo System for viewing photographs, and other AQUOS Fami-Link functions based on connection via HDMI to the television.

The devices also support 1080/24p video output to enable viewing Blu-ray movies at the correct frame rate in which they were filmed for the true flavor of the cinema. Plus, supports next-generation audio (bit-stream audio output) for multi-channel sound.

Sharp plans to introduce the new BD recorders in Japan on December 1.

Sharp will also introduce into the Japanese market seven AQUOS Blu-ray Disc Recorders. The new BD-AV1 and BD-AV10 Series enables recording and playback of digital broadcasts of HDTV programs.

These models feature a user interface that can be used easily without relying on the instruction manual. Easy One-Button Operation enables functions such as record, playback, and timer recording to be invoked simply and easily with the press of a single button. A Disc Meter indicates at a glance the amount of free disc space remaining on the supported BD-RE media.

These products are also compatibile with the AQUOS LCD TV through the AQUOS Fami-Link.

The new series will be introduced in Japan late October.
