Sharp Showcases Newest Advancements in LCD Technology

Sharp Showcases Newest Advancements in LCD Technology

Consumer Electronics May 21,2005 0

At the Society for Information Display International Symposium, Sharp will highlight its broad line of Liquid Crystal Display panels based on the newest innovations in LCD technology. The company will feature a 4.3-inch amorphous silicon liquid crystal display in a 16:9 aspect ratio and 480 x 272 pixel format capable of displaying 16 million colors. It was developed for next-generation mobile devices that require wider color gamut and greater power efficiency in a landscape format.

In its booth, 2019, Sharp will also exhibit several large-format LCD TVs, including its new 65-inch LCD TV, all developed with Sharp's Advanced Super View technology for high contrast and fast response time. Sharp's LCD TVs are manufactured at its sixth generation Kameyama fabrication plant in Mie Prefecture, Japan, where eight 32-inch displays can be cut from a single motherglass.

Sharp will exhibit a comprehensive lineup of small, medium and large display modules for mobile/handheld products, enterprise, automotive, industrial/medical, and consumer markets. Sharp's TFT-LCD displays feature proprietary display technologies, including:

-- Advanced Super View LCDs feature 170 degree (H) x 170 degree (V) viewing angle, response rates of 12 milliseconds or less, and a 800:1 contrast ratio. Sharp's Liquid Crystal Display TVs are manufactured using this technology for high contrast and fast response rates with no smearing of fast-moving images.

-- Super Mobile LCDs combine Sharp's proprietary Advanced Super View LCD and Advanced-TFT LCD technologies, and allow display modules to exhibit video and photographic-quality text and still images. A remarkable 240 x 240 Mobile ASV will be on display, as well as a 1.8-inch display for cell phones.

-- Advanced-TFT (AD-TFT) Technology combines the advantages of a reflective display with a conventional transmissive display, ideal for PDAs, gaming, medical, and other handheld and mobile applications used in a wide range of ambient lighting conditions. Displays that will be on exhibit for handheld applications include the 3.0-inch, 3.5-inch and 3.7-inch modules.

-- CG-Silicon is a next-generation process technology developed jointly by Sharp and Semiconductor Energy Laboratory Co., Ltd. CG-Silicon makes possible a new generation of smaller, thinner, more versatile, more powerful and energy-efficient mobile devices. Among the displays on exhibit will be a 2.6-inch VGA display, and 2.2-inch and 2.4-inch QVGA displays.

Also on hand will be Sharp's impressive lineup of automotive displays based on Advanced-TFT and CG-Silicon technology, in sizes ranging from 3.3- to 8.0-inch configurations for in-vehicle dashboard and rear-seat entertainment systems. There will also be a demonstration of its "cluster" solutions that are designed for outyear model dashboards.

Finally, Sharp will demonstrate its system solution for personal media player applications that features Sharp's MCUs, Flash memory, LEDs and other components.
