The DS72 1TB is a new addition to the lineup of external Portable SSDs for Silicon Power. The external drive supports high performance according to the specs, reaching 1GB/sec reading and 850MB/sec writing, and includes two different connection types, either USB Type C and USB Type A for connecting portable devices (iPhone, Android) or desktop/laptops (Windows/MacOS/Linux), that further improves compatibility among most devices currently sold at the market.

The DS72 lineup starts from 256GB up to 2TB capacities with corresponding retail prices. The 1TB model has a retail price of $79.99, which is according to the current market for such dual-purpose devices. The performance was very good and according to the specs, at least at synthetics benchmarks, and the best performance will be shown when copying/reading higher than 4K size files. When copying up to 40-50GB single file size, performance will drop down to 380MB/sec, and internal temperatures will be acceptable. However after that point, performance will eventually degrade and we don't recommend using this drive with higher than 50GB file size, in the sense that performance will drop down to 177MB/sec.

Concluding this review we found the Silicon Power DS72 series to be an honest product, priced properly and performing acceptable under the conditions we mentioned earlier. The dual interface ports are not unique and other vendors also have introduced such products, however, in most cases, they fail to mention the performance and warranty period. The Silicon Power DS72 series also packs 5 5-year warranty, as happens with all Silicon Power SSD series, which is another bonus for this product. Overall we suggest this product to all users, who understand what this product can do and what is its use.
