Sony Debuts Pay-per-view Movie Streaming Service

Consumer Electronics Nov 26,2010 0

Sony today announced the European launch of "Video On Demand powered by Qriocity" pay-per-view movie streaming service, available in High Definition on Sony's 2010 network-enabled devices. Available in France, Germany, Italy, Spain and the UK, "Video On Demand powered by Qriocity" is a pay-per-view movie streaming service that allows film fans to rent movies, including the latest releases and films from local studios, straight to their Sony 2010 network-enabled BRAVIA TV, Blu-ray Disc player, or Blu-ray Disc Home Theatre system.

The service allows consumers to browse, search, preview and select movies with a single click of the remote control.

Film lovers can now rent from a ibrary of hundreds of Hollywood blockbusters from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment, Lionsgate, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios Inc. (MGM), Paramount Pictures, Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, Starz Digital Media, The Walt Disney Company, NBC Universal International Television Distribution, and Warner Bros. Digital Distribution, as well as films from local studios.

The "Video On Demand powered by Qriocity" play list includes new releases as well as a wide variety of favourites, classic movies and local language movies, many of which are available in both Standard Definition (SD) and High Definition (HD). Sony said that new content will be added regularly and consumers can register for the service and check news of the latest additions to the movie library at www.qriocity.com .

"Video On Demand powered by Qriocity" can be found under the Qriocity icon on the cross media bar on the main menu. After renting a film, consumers have up to 14 days to start watching their movie, and once playback is started, they have 48 hours to watch the film as many times as they like. Rental prices for SD content start from £2.49 (€2.99) for library content and £3.49 (€3.99) for new releases, while HD content start respectively from £3.49 (€3.99) and £4.49 (€4.99).
