TSMC To Tape Out New iPhone Chip This Month
Apple's next-gen iPhone chip will get "taped out" this month in preparation for pilot production this summer, says a report.
Digitimes.com reportd today that Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) would tape out Apple's A7 processor on a 20nm process in March and then move the chip into risk production in May-June, which will pave the way for commercial shipments in the first quarter of 2014.
TSMC did not comment on market report.
The chip that will likely land in future iPhone and iPads.
Until now, Samsung has been the exclusive manufacturer of Apple's A series processors for the iPhone and iPad. However, Apple has been looking for other chip manufacturing partners, which could also include Intel.
