Woman Scraps $200,000 Apple 1 Computer
A woman in CleanBayArea in Milpitas, California, dropped off some electronic goods in April, incluing a rare Apple-1 Computer that could worth more than $200,000. The unknown woman was cleaning out the garage after her husband died, and brought the rare computer to a a Silicon Valley recycling firm.
The groundbreaking home computer was designed in 1976 by Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak and currently, only a few dozen are known still to exist. Of course, the woman did not know the value of this rare piece of hardware and brought it for recycling without even asking for a tax receipt.
The recycling company, Clean Bay Area, wants to give her $100,000. This is company policy. Clean Bay Area sold this Apple I earlier this month to a private collection for $200,000.
Two years ago, an Apple 1 went to auction and fetched $387,750.
