Plasmon OMS and Soft-R Research Start Mass Production for Hybrid CD

Optical Storage Dec 16,2005 0

Plasmon OMS Sarl, and Soft-R Research LLC announce today that a new mass production capability for Hybrid CD has been made available to CD manufacturing facilities. In the past, Hybrid CD manufacturing was complex, resulting in limited volume and inconsistent quality. The company said that its new new process enables CD manufacturers to produce high quality, high volume Hybrid CD media using existing production infrastructure.

A Hybrid CD is an optical disc that has a ROM (read only memory) section where information such as software applications can be pre-recorded, followed by a Recordable section which operations like a CDR. A hybrid CD can be used in standard CD and DVD drives to access the pre-recorded application and record related information.

The new Stamper and process documentation opens the door for CD recordable replication factories to enter the Hybrid CD market without making significant capital investment. Based on the industry leading Ciba IRGAPHOR Ultragreen MX dye, the new process enables the production of high quality Hybrid CD on standard production lines.

“We went through this development with Plasmon because our CD-Soft-R Customers started selling the product in Millions per month. Producing the requested volume with ‘A grade’ quality required the development of an industrial process” explained Jean-Marc Pinson (Marketing Europe Soft-R).
